........donates ₦2m to the Overall Best Graduating Student of OOU

Gov Dapo Abiodun has stressed that Education remains a vital pillar in the developmental Agenda of his administration, as he asserts continued investments in its sector education for a secured future.

The Governor who made this known during the 35th Convocation ceremony of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, held at its Permanent site, noted that convocation was particularly significant as it coincides with the 50th Anniversary of Ogun State, saying the institution stands proudly amongst the legacies of that defining moment in the history of the state, clearly reflecting the foresight that placed education at the centre of states 
development.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele informed that the Olabisi Onabanjo University stands as a leading institution committed to producing competent, innovative and future-ready graduates for Ogun State and Nigeria, whilst continuing to uphold standards of discipline, innovation and service, saying government remains appreciative of these efforts.

"I commend the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Toyin Ashiru; the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olayinka Johnson Agboola, members of the Governing Council and Senate; as well as staff and students of this university for sustaining the ideals upon which Olabisi Onabanjo University was founded. The university continues to uphold standards of discipline, innovation, and service, and the Ogun State Government remains appreciative of these efforts" he said.

According to the Governor, the 35th Convocation of Olabisi Onabanjo University, celebrates academic excellence, access and institutional relevance, a clear indication of the University’s rising academic standards and the dedication of its faculty and students, revealing that his policies are driven by evidence and impact, saying by placing reliable data at the centre of decision-making, his administration has enhanced transparency, improved outcomes and ensured that every intervention across the education value chain is strategic and measurable.

Abiodun added that his commitment to education is most clearly demonstrated in the scale of the investment put to it, In the current fiscal year, ₦275.40 billion alone was allocated to education, representing 17 per cent of the State’s ₦1.7 trillion budget, this he said reflects a clear determination to expand access to quality education, reduce inequality and ensure that no child is left behind, regardless of background or location.
Congratulating the graduating students on achieving this notable feat, he charged them to continue to learn, to ask questions and conduct themselves as worthy ambassadors of the university, saying knowledge, character, and discipline will always set you apart, the Governor reaffirmed his governments resolve to continue investing boldly, innovating fearlessly, and supporting its educational institutions, teachers, and learners without hesitation. 

While applauding the Pro-chancellor, Vice Chancellor and the entire Olabisi Onabanjo University community on the successful hosting of this 35th convocation ceremony, Gov Abiodun announced a cash donation of #500,000 each to the 13 best graduating student of the various faculties of the school and another cash donation of #2,000,000 to Master Ajayi David of the Faculty of Engineering, who emerged the overall best Graduating Student of the set.

In his remarks, Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof Ayodeji Olayinka Agboola noted that the institution has a proud tradition of excellence, saying he was immensely delighted that it continues to record more remarkable milestones, further strengthening its standing as a leadimg as one of the leading state school's in Nigeria..

According to him the Olabisi Onabanjo University currently rants 16th in ranking as rated by the latest Webomeyric Ranking conducted for a total of 321 Universities in Nigeria based on Academic visibility, research output and web presence, informing that it ranked only second to LAUTECH in the state owned category. 

While extending special regards to the Governor and Visitor to the University, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for the affirmative priority his administration has continued to accord Education in the state, calling it a catalyst for holistic and transformative development, he reaffirmed the University's commitment to advancing a knowledge-driven economy anchored on innovation, digital transformation sustainable development which the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government stands for.
