The dramatic challenge, issued during a live television appearance on Thursday, signals an escalation in the widening political crack within the ruling APC in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Otunba Gbenga Daniel accused the Abiodun administration of avoiding public scrutiny, particularly on issues relating to project transparency and accountability. According to him, Ogun residents deserve clearer explanations on government spending and policy decisions.
The former governor also questioned the state government’s reported decision to appeal a court judgment compelling disclosure of project costs, describing the move as troubling and unnecessary.
Political observers believe the latest confrontation is closely tied to the growing battle for control of Ogun East Senatorial District ahead of 2027. Daniel is believed to be seeking another term in the Senate, while speculations continue that Abiodun may contest for the same seat after completing his tenure as governor.
The development has further exposed deepening tensions within Ogun APC, especially after recent disagreements over consensus arrangements and party supremacy in the state. The Ogun State Government had earlier dismissed Daniel’s criticisms as politically motivated, insisting Governor Abiodun remains focused on infrastructure development and economic reforms.
Despite his criticisms, Daniel maintained that he would respect any directive from President Bola Tinubu regarding the political situation in Ogun State, suggesting efforts may still be ongoing to manage the growing division within the State.
