…emerges among Nigeria's top three in Event Management
The Ogun State Chapter of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has recorded another landmark achievement after emerging as one of the three finalists in the Event Management category of the 2026 National Spokesperson Awards (NS Awards), Nigeria's foremost platform for recognising excellence in strategic communication.
The Chapter will compete with its counterparts in Anambra and Kaduna for the coveted national honour following a painstaking selection process that reduced 171 nominations from across the country to just 42 finalists in 16 award categories.
The announcement has further strengthened Ogun NIPR's reputation as one of the country's most vibrant and innovative professional chapters, recognised for delivering impactful programmes, advancing professional development and setting new standards in event management.
Chairperson of the Awards Jury, Professor Saudat Abdulbaqi, disclosed that after the initial screening, only 91 entries met the stringent eligibility requirements before progressing to the final evaluation stage.
She explained that the jury assessed all submissions using four key parameters—impact, innovation and originality, reach, and the quality of supporting evidence—to ensure a transparent, objective and credible selection process.
According to her, the finalists represent institutions and professionals who have demonstrated exceptional performance in public communication, media relations, stakeholder engagement, crisis response and strategic communication.
The Event Management category, in which Ogun secured its place among the final three, is one of the most competitive categories of this year's awards.
Also shortlisted in the Knowledge Hub category are the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano, and the Kwara State Ministry of Communications.
Other prominent finalists include Hakama Sidi Ali of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Dele Oyewole of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the prestigious Spokesperson of the Year category, while leading public institutions, corporate organisations, agencies and communication professionals also secured nominations across various categories.
Chairman of the Awards Committee, Mr. Segun McMedal, described the finalists as outstanding examples of excellence in Nigeria's evolving communication landscape.
He said the National Spokesperson Awards, now in its sixth edition, continues to promote professionalism, reward innovation and encourage excellence among communication professionals and institutions across both the public and private sectors.
McMedal announced that winners will be unveiled at the 2026 National Spokesperson Awards Gala scheduled for August in Abuja. The event will be held alongside the annual Economic Confidential Lecture, which brings together government spokespersons, media executives, corporate affairs leaders and public policy experts from across the country.
While reacting to the cheering news, the Ogun NIPR Chairman, Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, said the nomination is more than a place on the shortlist.
"It is a national endorsement of the chapter's commitment to professional excellence, innovation and impactful engagement, reinforcing its growing influence within Nigeria's public relations profession as it vies for one of the country's highest honours in strategic communication," she submitted.
