The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has Charged the members of the Chartered Institute of Directors on the need, to enhance engagement, visibility, promote Accountability, be professional and effective Directorship.
Speaking during the Investiture and Inauguration Ceremony of the Executives of the Institute's Southwest Zone, led by its Chairman, Dr Remilekun Rasaki Bakare, Engr Salako-Oyedele who also noted that the institute had a big role to play outside being a professional body, urged them to provide a platform for mentorship, training, collaboration and networking amongst business leaders, directors and public servants.
According to her, "The Chartered Institute of Directors occupies a very important place in national development. At a time when Ogun State and other Southwest states are witnessing increased industrial and commercial activities, the need for competent directors and strong business networks has become more urgent."
The Deputy Governor admonished the new leadership of the Southwest Zone to strengthen engagement with businesses across the region by making the institute more visible, accessible and impactful, informing that they couldn't have chosen a better leader for the job, revealing that Dr Bakare understood the principles of good governance as well as the demands of leadership, enterprise and institutional growth.
Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, disclosed that Ogun State has continued to attract investments and industries across logistics, agriculture and technology, since the inception of the current administration in the state, stressing that It will continue to welcome partnerships with Professional Institutes such as the Chartered Institute of Directors, who play a crucial role in fostering Corporate governance and leadership within the State.
While Congratulating the newly elected executives on their emergence and praying a successful tenure for them, she called on entrepreneurs, company directors and public servants to embrace the institute's mandate as it serves as a veritable tool in bridging the gap between policy and enterprise, Government and the private sector, emerging and established businesses alongside other movers and shakers of the Nations economy.
In his contribution, Secretary to the Ogun State Government, (SSG), Mr Tokunbo Talabi, congratulated the new executives on the occasion of their investiture, charging them to be more, innovative, proactive in implementing value driven programmes and bring their vast experiences to play in the states of the Southwest, particularly Ogun State.
Giving his Keynote Address on the theme; Innovative strategy for improved governance in Nigeria since 2023, the speaker and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Babatunde Ogala, said a lot of sectors in nigeria need reforms, noting that the present administration in the country has carved a niche for itself through Innovations such as removal of fuel subsidy, stabilization of the
exchange rate, local government autonomy, improved diaspora remittance which according to him has also led to transparency and Investors credibility, strengthened institutions capacity, student loan scheme and Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Earlier in his opening remarks, the President and Chairman of Governing Council, CIOD Nigeria, Otunba Adetunji Oyebanji, said investitures was not just an ordinary occasion but a call to serve, calling on the new executives to be up and doing, for the total reawakening of members across the zones, create an environment where the public and private sectors come to them for guidance, execute value driven programmes, that will elevate the professional capacity of members and above all, prioritise professional upscaling and sustainability of it members.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, South West Zone (CIoD), Dr. Remilekun Rasaki Bakare, F.CI.oD, said that South west occupies a unique position within a landscape of corporate governance, hence the need for collaboration between government and stakeholders such as CIoD as governance challenges can rarely be solved by the government alone, pledging to lead his administration with honesty, integrity accountability and professionalism, while guided by the enviable values of the institute.
Highlight of the event was the formal Investiture and Inauguration of the New executives and Cultural display by the State Cultural troupe.
