AMOSUN TASKS IGP ARASE ON PEOPLE-ORIENTED POLICING

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has tasked the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase to embrace community policing in the internal security drive of the Nigeria Police, as no security outfit can achieve significant success without people’s co-operation.
Governor Amosun who gave this advice when the Inspector General of Police, paid him a courtesy visit in Abeokuta, said that no nation could thrive without adequate security of lives and property.
He emphasized that intelligence gathering would be made easier when people believe in security agency, adding that security is not the sole responsibility of the federal government but the duty of all and sundry.
The Governor who said that his administration since inception had made significant progress in creating an enabling and secured environment for people, noted that he was among the Nigerians that called for the establishment of State police, pointing out that both state and federal security outfits could co-exist to achieve a common goal.
‘’For any security agency to succeed, they need to have the people’s co-operation. They need to have confidence in you and believe in you. Then, the work of intelligence gathering would be made easier.
I’m part of those calling for the establishment of state police since there are no federal people. I do not see why state and federal government-owned security outfit cannot co-exist to achieve a common goal. There is probably no state in the country where other states are not represented. Security is not just about Federal Government but the duty of all,’’ Amosun stated.
While commending the Police Chief for his interest in ensuring that Late H.I.D. Awolowo had a hitch-free burial, assured that the State Government would continue to collaborate with security agencies for the protection of lives and property.
Speaking earlier, Inspector General of Police, Arase, commended Governor Amosun for blazing the  trail in the procurement of Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) to enhance the work of security men, saying that, ‘’the Ogun State under your leadership has achieved a huge socio-economic development by putting security in the right place. When you came, you were one of the first Governors who came in with Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and you have not stopped enhancing the job of security agencies since then. I’m sure the huge level of socio-economic development under your leadership has been possible because of your investment in security,’’ Arase said.
