OGSG EMPOWERS LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTANTS, DISTRIBUTES WORKING TOOLS

Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has presented desktop computer systems, printers and other accessories to Accountants, Planning Officers and Executive Officers (Accountants) across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the State.

Making the presentation on behalf of the State government, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, pointed out that the gesture which comes after a one-week training programme for local government chieftains, was to keep Accountants and others abreast of new trends in public sector accounting practice.

Ojuko added that the training was aimed at exposing the accountants with the modalities for transparency and accountability, as well as blockage of leakages in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) at local councils.

"As a follow up to the training and in line with the present administration's desires to achieving the goals of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), the State government is therefore giving out Computer systems, printers and accessories to all our 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), to enhance their productivity, as well as to be able to put to work the knowledge acquired in the course of the training’’, Ojuko stated.

He therefore advised beneficiaries to make judicious use of these tools, towards improving accounting procedures in their various Councils.

Responding, the Planning Officer for Abeokuta South West Local Council Development Area, Mr. Jones Olufemi, commended the State government for empowering the Councils, noting that the presentation of the working tools across the Councils would help them to achieve accurate data and guarantee unlimited speed in the discharge of their duties, as well as helping in capturing all IGR without leakages.
