Trained and certified artisans and technicians across Ogun State who have abandoned their trade and taken to other menial jobs due to their inability to secure working tools would soon heave a sigh of relieve as the State Government through the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical and Vocational Education and Training will soon link them with finance and other tools to assist them in practicing their trade.
Special Adviser to the Ogun on Technical and Vocational Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa said this while speaking with newsmen in his office in Abeokuta, revealed that the empowerment would be done in conjunction with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment's "Business Clinic Initiative" to enable them procure State -of- the -art equipment needed to enhance their trade.
Prof. Odemuyiwa submitted that certified technicians and artisans are engaged in other trades due to lack of capital and basic tools, affirming that the government intends to fight unemployment by linking them with financial institutions for various empowerment opportunities in collaboration with other government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government.
He added that apart from finance, there was need for continuous training of artisans and technicians, as well as linking them with modern tools, in order to make them relevant and meet increasing industrial demand, adding that the office in collaboration with development partners, would continue to train technicians and expose them to modern techniques of their different trades.
