OGUN LCDA CONSRTUCTS LOCK-UP SHOPS, PROMOTES GRASSROOTS DEVELOPMENT

The Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko has commissioned 10 Lock-Up Shops at Ijebu Mushin in Ijebu East Central LCDA, Ojowo, with a charge to other local government authorities to emulate and ensure the sustainability of the newly created 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), to fast tract development at the grassroots.

          Ojuko who gave the charge at the commissioning, commended the Council for bequeathing good legacies for others to emulate, enjoining staffers of the local government, party leaders and market women to continue to support in the developmental stride  

          “Today, again, we are witnessing another landmark achievement in the Council Area, which is the commissioning of lock-up shops. It is no doubt that the shops will improve the Internally Generated Revenue of the LCDA, as well as serve as catalyst to economic growth of the area.

          ”Permit me to quickly go into history, as efforts by our Progressive leaders and former Governors, late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo and Aremo Olusegun Osoba, to create LCDAs were not successful due to change in government.

          "The LCDAs have now come to stay against all odds. The good people of the State at the local level are now enjoying the dividends of democracy, as different developmental projects, such as schools, boreholes, bridges and grading of roads are being carried out at different communities", Ojuko noted.

          Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman, Ijebu East Central LCDA, Barr. Bayo Oshikomaya, pointed out that the creation of the additional 37 LCDAs had brought government closer to the people.

          Osikomaya said the choice of the project was due to the fact that market was number one source of revenue for his administration, appealing to allotters to ensure proper maintenance and prompt payment of rents, to enable the Council embark on other projects that would be of benefit to the people.

 

          In her remark, the Iyaloja, Ijebu East LCDA, Chief (Mrs.) Janet Abiodun, appreciated the Chairman and the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, for their efforts at making life easier for the citizenry, adding that their administrations had impacted positively on the lives of people, particularly, at the grassroots.
